A's to your Q's

01/

What is your availability?

The fastest way to book a lesson with our Albany driving school is to give us a call on 0418 921 452. If we are out teaching you will get a busy message but we will get back to you as soon as we can!

02/

How much are your lessons?

We charge $80 for one hour, and $110 for an hour-and-a-half.

Your first driving lesson with us will always be 1.5hrs long. There is some paperwork to do, as well as learning about the controls of the training car. After that initial lesson, we will be happy to book whichever length suits you best. We have found that students can achieve more in a 1.5hr lesson, and it does work out to be slightly better value. The choice is up to you!

Motorbike lessons are priced the same as our car lessons.

03/

What should I wear for my motorbike lessons?

We recommend:

-sturdy lace-up shoes or boots (NOT steel cap)

-long pants (heavyweight jeans are a great choice)

-a sturdy jacket. A waterproof riding jacket is best, but any durable jacket is better protection than none at all.

-if you have your own helmet please bring it! We have helmets available, but your own will likely fit you better. Also, bring your riding gloves if you have them.

04/

How many driving lessons will I need?

Everyone learns at different rates so this is hard to predict! We recommend at least 2-3 lessons for an advanced driver/rider. Many of our new students are not aware of the manoeuvres they have to perform as part of the Practical Driving Assessment (PDA). We recommend several sessions to get to grips with these. We also make sure each of our students are driving to a high standard. After your first lesson with us we can discuss with you if you are close to being able to book a PDA.

05/

Do you have an automatic car?

Yes! We currently have a dual control automatic (Subaru Forester SX), as well as a dual control manual car (Hyundai i20).

06/

I can already drive, I just need a quick brush up?

This might take longer than you might think! We have had students surprised at how long it can take to unlearn bad driving habits. We will do our best to help, but try not to put yourself in a position where you are  booking your first lesson just before taking your Practical Driving Assessment, as we have found it is unlikely you will have a good result.

07/

Can I hire your car for my Practical Driving Assessment (PDA)?

Yes! We currently have a dual control manual car (Hyundai i20), and a dual control automatic (Subaru Forester SX) available to our students. Please note however that we will not let you use our car without first assessing your current skill level. As such we ask that you book at least one lesson with us, just so we can gage your preparedness for the PDA.

08/

I want to drive the car I'm used to for my lessons and my test, can I do that?

In order to provide a save learning environment, we only teach using our dual control training cars.

The DoT will allow for a driving test to be taken in a licensed roadworthy vehicle with a central handbrake that the front passenger (the tester) can operate if required. In reality, the testers prefer the safety of a dual control vehicle, and we have had students turned away from taking their PDA due to the road worthiness of their vehicle.

It is also important to remember that you are being assessed for your suitability to drive any vehicle of the class you are applying for, NOT just the one car you have practised in. Being able to drive a variety of cars is an important part of gaining your licence, as it is very unlikely you will drive only one for your whole life!
